Plastics in Agriculture Lesson 2: Agricultural plastics, pollution, and waste control management

wheelbarrow made from half a plastic drum

Plastic is an important material used in agriculture. It has transformed how we farm, from simple baler twine to silage wrap. However, if these resources are not managed well they can escape into the environment, getting into our soil, rivers and eventually our sea!

These resources form a series of three lessons designed around the City and Guilds Advanced Diploma in Agriculture aimed at level 3 Further Education learners. The lessons focus on sources and impacts of plastic pollution as well as possible solutions and good waste management practice. Each lesson contains a powerpoint and student activity worksheets.

This lesson will:

  • Describe how plastics have changed farming practice
  • Apply the waste hierarchy within the agriculture sector
  • Outline good plastic waste management
