Preventing Plastic Pollution guidance packs detail some of the results an findings from 3 years of work tackling plastic pollution from source to sea. From developing a standardised approach to quantifying micro and macro plastic pollution, testing interventions to remove waste and working with communities to prevent plastic entering waterways in the first place.
It is important to understand the origin of plastics at sea in order to effectively target the sources that release them. Globally, we lack a baseline of the extent of plastic pollution and where that pollution is coming from, making management of the problem piecemeal, costly and difficult.
PPP worked in 7 different pilots to demonstrate the effectiveness of a transferable catchment based approach to measuring plastic pollution.
